UFCW Local 152 Attends Ocean County Freeholder Meeting In Support of Adult-Use Cannabis

On Wednesday, September 16th, UFCW Local 152 staff attended an Ocean County Freeholder meeting in Toms River, NJ to voice support on behalf of the adult-use cannabis industry in the county. The meeting was later reported by Asbury Park Press, and UFCW Local 152 staff were mentioned:

Hugh Giordano, a union representative and organizer for the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 152, which supports the legalization of recreational marijuana, said the change in law could result in countless opportunities for New Jersey’s working-class residents.

“The bill is going to create thousands of good-paying, living wage jobs with health care, vacation, and retirement,” Giordano said. “The type of living wage jobs that New Jerseyans have been begging for, for years now.” Read the full article on the Asbury Park Press website.

Ultimately, the Ocean County Board of Freeholders unanimously voted to oppose the state constitutional amendment to allow for recreational marijuana.

New Jersey residents will vote on a referendum to legalize recreational marijuana on November 3. If approved, the referendum would legalize the possession, cultivation, and sale of recreational marijuana for adults 21 and over and will impose a 6.625% tax on marijuana sales.

UFCW Local 152 will continue to show up to meetings to voice our support of industries that will provide New Jersey with good jobs and revenue.
