Members at Samuels and Son Seafood Ratify Short-Term Agreement – 9/24/2021

On Friday, September 24th, roughly fifty UFCW Local 152 members (cutters and packers) from Samuels and Son Seafood in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania stood together to ratify a short-term agreement.

COVID-19 has had a multifaceted effect on the world as we know it. Many wholesale foodservice businesses are just now starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

The members at Samuels and Son banded together to support a one-year agreement with minimal changes. This agreement assured that their employer would absorb 100% of any medical cost increases for the duration of the agreement, protecting the members from any cost-share increase. The agreement also included a significant retention bonus for all employees based on their length of service.

The goal of this short-term deal was to preserve the integrity of their contract while giving their employer an opportunity to rebound after a significant business loss due to the pandemic. We hold hope that greener pastures are right around the corner!

Special thank you to the Negotiating Committee, which consisted of Director of Collective Bargaining Dan Ross, Union Representative Matte Kane, Shop Stewards Ernest Dunmore and Antonio Fontanez, and Committeeperson Tuon Tran.

UFCW Local 152 represents over two hundred workers at Samuels and Son Seafood in Philadelphia, a company that specializes in the wholesale seafood market.
