Workers at the Borough of Highlands Ratify New Union Contract – 1/12/2026

On Monday, January 12, supervisory employees at the Borough of Highlands in Highlands, New Jersey, voted to ratify a new union contract!

The new three-year agreement provides many improvements. All members will receive guaranteed wage increases yearly for the life of the contract. Workers at the Borough of Highlands will now receive time-and-a-half (1.5) of their regular rate for hours worked on the weekend, as well as a guaranteed time-and-a-half for call-ins due to unexpected emergencies. The negotiating committee also bargained for more vacation time for senior members.

The bargaining unit was expanded to include the Senior Account Clerk. Finally, the uniform allowance was nearly doubled for certain positions.

Congratulations to our members! This contract would not have been possible without the union negotiating committee, which included Bargaining Representative Chad Brooks, Union Representative Mike Thompson, and Shop Steward Bill Brunt.
