UFCW Local 152 Staff Attends Wildwood Board of Commissioners Meeting – 3/24/2021

On Wednesday, March 24th, UFCW Local 152 staff attended a Board of Commissioners meeting in Wildwood, New Jersey to voice the union’s support of the cannabis industry.

A few years ago, the city of Wildwood had approved a ban on cannabis dispensaries in the shore town. However, because the people of New Jersey voted in favor of the Marijuana Legalization Amendment last November, it is no longer clear whether that previous ban will legally stay in effect.

The Press of Atlantic City later reported the meeting, where UFCW Local 152 Union Representative Hugh Giordano was mentioned:

At the meeting, advocates pushed for the town to at least allow sales for the medical market. Hugh Giordano, of Blackwood, a representative of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, said the cannabis industry provides good-paying jobs, while Edward Grimes, an activist with the organization Sativa Cross, said it can be a challenge for patients on vacation or living in Wildwood to travel to buy cannabis out of town.

They have spoken to other towns, sharing a similar message.

Ultimately a decision was not met at the meeting. Regardless, UFCW Local 152 will continue to show up to meetings throughout the state to voice support for industries that will provide New Jersey with good jobs and revenue.
